Hello Fellow GRS Members and Friends, As I sit here February 2nd, the outside temperature has been 85 degrees most of the day. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come this summer where it gets nearly 100 degrees for most of June, July, August and some of September.
Being this hot for so long causes us to think about continuing with this rose hobby in light of the humidity and extreme heat. We may be forced to look at new and different ways to care for our beloved plants.
If you missed our Deep South District meeting, you missed a lot of fun and comradery with old and new friends. We are very fortunate to be having these conventions here in our back yard. There are currently three future conventions now scheduled at the Best Western Grand Hotel. Please consider joining and taking part whenever you are able.
Our meeting on the 12th will be at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens; pruning is our program. If you are in doubt as to how a rose should and needs to be pruned, this will be the only opportunity to have a hands-on for a while. Bring your clippers, gloves and a chair if you need one. We will have a short brief business meeting, so come one and all and bring a friend.
As we move into March GRS will have a roundtable discussion for the program. This will be presented by our own Consulting Rosarians and knowledgeable members. These short talks will give you a lot of do’s and don’ts. Going over basics is a good refresher for us all.
Did you know a lot of the things we learn regarding roses can be used with other garden and ornamental plants too?
