Dear Gainesville Rosarians, Let’s celebrate! We’ve accomplished a lot in spite of over two years of pandemic. Our membership has voted to do something different for our traditional May picnic. We will be meeting at Northwest Grille for a meal and fellowship at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15. Details are below:
And what have we been doing? We have been meeting since September, 2021, with programs and activities. We approved the revised By-Laws. We hosted a successful fall Deep South District meeting and rose show. We have been working with Alexis Caffrey at Kanapaha Botanical Garden and in March pruned the roses in the rose garden. Alexis has been overseeing improvements to the rose garden including repair of the colonnade and removal of the “mound” which has proved too dry to grow roses successfully. She is ordering roses including Tausendshon (Thousand Beauties) that should cover the trellises at the colonnade.
Meanwhile, our trifold information brochure is being revised and the list of recommended roses updated. And we have new Consulting Rosarians! Art Wade is awaiting final approval from the District and Wayne Myers is now a member of GRS. Very soon we will look at our other publications and update. Please send your suggestions for rose varieties to add to the lists—and maybe some to remove. And we look forward to 2022-2023 guided by our President elect, Ralph Stream, and a rose show November 5 at The Village.
