It was great to see many of you at our traditional May picnic, our first in-person meeting since March, 2020. We welcomed new member Kathy Porter who is also a member of the Marion County Rose Society. We really appreciate her volunteering to be the Registrar for the Fall Deep South District Convention.
It was an accomplishment to finally adopt the revised Bylaws unanimously which replace the very old Constitution and ByLaws. The new version is in line with our current practices and gives us some flexibility in running our society.
The traditional ice cream social will be June 13 at 2 p.m. at Rose Petals Nursery. Thanks the Cyd and Art Wade for hosting. Please let Missy Burton know what you will be bringing. Thanks to Ann Sherwood for set up and decorations.
We agreed to host the DSD Convention fairly confident we could at least break even, considering Covid19 restrictions on capacity at the hotel, etc. Also, we learned that the hotel is under new management which is impacting the cost of running the convention. We are keeping a close watch on expenses.
We plan for the arrangement workshop to pay for itself. The cost of the banquet is barely covered by the meal price. In addition, there are costs for speakers, use of rooms, the rose show, hospitality, etc. Your $45-$50 registration fee helps pay these expenses.
Since, at present, the banquet is limited to 90 people and there may be other capacity issues, we urge you to make your reservations now. Also, you must be registered to enter the rose show and/or to attend any of the events. We really appreciate Jean and Ralph Stream and Kathy Porter lending their knowledge and expertise to put on this event.
I hope you have been enjoying our great spring weather before we get hit with the heat of summer and that your roses are thriving. Keep in mind pruning times so you will have entries for the October 16th rose show.
Please bring items for our raffle!
