Dear Rose Friends,
Things are looking up for the Gainesville Rose Society! I can hardly express how happy it made me to hear from so many of you, and so promptly, about the fall Deep South District Convention. Almost all our members who responded are in favor of hosting the convention and will help put it on. We want to assure you that the Best Western Gateway Grand will be observing all Covid – 19 precautions and protocols. At present the hotel is operating at 50% capacity and our registration goal and maximum registration right now is 60, so get your registration in early! Read more about it below.
It also will be great to meet “live” at our May 16 picnic at 2 p.m. at the Homemakers Club building in Melrose. We are asking each family or “pod” to bring their own picnic and lawn chairs, to socially distance, and wear masks except when eating. We will have tables scattered in the side yard for various sized groups. GRS will provide beverages and plastic utensils if you need them.
The address is 25728 Park Street, Melrose. From State Road 26, turn north on Centre Street and travel one block.
If you haven’t been taking advantage of the on-line seminars being offered by the American Rose Society, I urge you to do so. The recent presentation by Mike Shoup of the Antique Rose Emporium had some great tips for using roses in the landscape, focusing on gardens with roses rather than rose gardens.
Our home garden is exploding with roses. We’ve never had so many. I don’t know whether to attribute it to the abundant rain, better “feeding” practices, or ???? I hope you, also, are enjoying an abundance of our favorite flowers.
The GRS Annual picnic will be held in Melrose, Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 2:00 pm. This will be a “bring your own food“ for your family group. Bring your own lawn chairs as well. A few tables will be scattered on the lawn for our use. GRS will provide drinks and plastic utensils.
Please bring and wear your masks except when eating. It will be really nice to get together, catch up on our lives, talk roses and continue our planning for the Fall Convention and Rose Show.
Please come if you are able.
Jean Giesel, President
