Here we are already at the beginning of a new year and the 2020s! And it’s a time when many of us at least think about making some resolutions for the New Year. Besides the usual ones of eating less and saving more, how about some resolutions for your garden. Here are a few ideas:
- Take time to enjoy and share your garden. If you don’t already have a seat in a quiet spot, make one. It doesn’t have to be elaborate.
- Consider ways to cut down on use of water and chemicals. We know that roses need plenty of water to thrive, but sometimes water is wasted, and there are ways to save water in the rest of the garden.
- Throughout the year, photograph your beautiful roses. Then you will have material to enter in rose photography contests as they come along.
- Get a tetanus booster shot.
- Evaluate your garden and try some different types of roses. There are so many to choose from. What about singles, climbers, antique roses, minis and minifloras? Willie Mae Burley will be telling us about minis and minifloras at our meeting January 12. If you are lucky enough to have some blooming now, please bring them as examples for the program.
The best to all in 2020! May your roses all thrive and their blooms be beautiful!
Yours in Roses,
Jean Giesel, President
