President's Message - June 2019

This is my last message as President of our Gainesville Rose Society.

It does not seem possible that two years have passed. I would like to thank my officers, committee chairmen and all of our members who have contributed so magnificently to our successes these two years. We have had exciting, enlightening and excellent programs at our meetings, programs that have provided educational value to and have challenged us. I am very pleased that we have a number of new members in our society and the interest, enthusiasm and contributions that they have made for the betterment of our society.

I am particularly pleased that we have reached out to the community (schools, The Village, etc.) because in so doing we are invigorating our society with new ideas and a renewed interest in roses. Helping in the community is a very important part of the American Rose Society’s program and we are doing our best to work with them in this endeavor. The more we help in creating community rose gardens the more the rose is loved and the more that we need to spread the love of the rose. In this regards Art and I will be working with The Village and the Westwood Middle School in creating new rose gardens.

National Garden Week is the 2nd to the 8th of June. A great way to celebrate it is to take roses, make a bouquet out of them and place them in your local library with a note indicating that they were a present from our Gainesville Rose Society.

Our last meeting of the year is scheduled for Sunday, June 9th at the Rose Petals Nursery for 2:00 P.M. The theme as in past years will be the ICE CREAM SOCIAL. This is always a fun meeting. We will also have the installation of our new GRS officers. So, come out to enjoy yourself and show support for our new officers.

Look forward to seeing you on the 9th.

Yours in Roses,
Lee Kline, President
