President's Message - May 2019

On the Wednesday before our rose show Art Wade and I were invited by the Village Garden Club to attend their meeting for the purpose of making presentations. Art was to make his presentation on Heritage Roses. He did a wonderful job of taking roses that had fragrance and the members experienced their beautiful scent. One gentleman was so interested and into the program he asked Art if he had the citrus removed from his area, could he plant roses in the vacated area.

We also spoke about ‘ no spray ‘ roses both heritage and modern roses. The members present were so enthusiastic about the program that they were talking in terms of creating another rose garden; an on -going project that they were ready to plan and work on.

Thank you, Jean Geisel, chairman of our rose show, and all of our members who cooperated so magnificently and worked so diligently to make our 45th rose show such a big success! In addition to the rose show, per se, the photograph area was much larger than our last show. We had 35 entries in the adult area and in the youth area there were also 35 entries with 16 youth participating. The youth’s participation was a focal point of the show and was enthusiastically received.

I also thank and appreciate Paula Bowlin at the Village for welcoming us and allowing us the opportunity to have our event at such a wonderful venue. I also thank, and am very much indebted to, all of the personnel at the Village for all of the time and effort they provided by setting up and taking down all of tables, chairs, etc. It was a joy working with them.

A FINAL REMINDER! Our picnic date has been changed TO the Saturday before Mother’s Day. And, as had been previously planned, it will be held at the ROSE PETAL NURSERY at 2 P.M. We do hope that all members can come.

If you had signed up for a dish to bring, thank you. If you had not signed up to bring anything and would like to do so please call Ann Sherwood at (352) 373–3969. Thank you.

Yours in Roses,
Lee Kline, President
