President's Message - October 2018

Well, the weather forecast claims that we are heading for the temperatures to be dropping to the 80s during the day. I assume that we are all looking forward to this respite not only because it may help our blooms but it will also be more comfortable working in the cooler weather thus giving us more time to tend our roses.

The Kanapaha Fall Sale is scheduled for October 13th. I will be there all day. The sign-up sheet indicates that Jean Geisel and Missy Burton are scheduled from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M..; Willie Mae Burley from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. and John Stageman from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M. Please remember there is no charge for admission fee.

We will have our regularly scheduled meeting on Sunday, October the 14th at our regularly scheduled time 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Barbara Bull will be our presenter. Please bring a cup for your arrangement, clippers and as many mini roses as you can gather up with as much foliage which you can muster up too. We will make every attempt to have roses available to anyone who does not have any.

An update on the Westwood Middle School Garden Project. We, the Gainesville Rose Society, the Gainesville Garden Club and the Master Gardeners are working on the raised garden beds at the school repairing and replacing the wood sidings that contains the soil. When this job is completed and the beds are stable the Master Gardeners will fill the beds with fresh soil and then they will be ready for the science teacher to have her students do their plantings thus making this project a great learning experience for her students. We continue to work on the photography aspect of this experience to incorporate it into the project as another avenue for education.

Yours in Roses,

Lee Kline, President
